Found velvet shanks in Ravenscraig Park, and a couple more oysters. First forage of 2022.
Made "peanut butter and jam" pies, with blackcurrents, coconut oil, and date/coconut/nuts crust at home, and lemon pies and choc chip muffins in Community Kitchen.
Seedlings sprouting! Tomatoes, squash, cucumber, gherkin, onions. It all begins again..
Made berry muffins for Greener Kirkcaldy Community Kitchen.
Reminded myself how the BODS translation workflow works.
Attended a meeting of the Vipassana Trust Accessibility Committee.
Found and fixed underfloor problems, and replaced some floorboards in my bedroom. Got the hammock up on the walls! Now I can see the sea from it, which means I never need to get up again. Laid new laminate in my bedroom.
Dismantled my espresso machine. Cleaned out limescale and gunk. Discovered it never has had a shower screen. Have not yet reassembled it.
Dave came back, brought Sri Lankan tea, made curry, left again.
Read The Death of Grass, but I didn't like it at all.
Went on a Vipassana meditation retreat as a server. Cooked for 200 people, made amazing new friends, and found my meditation vibes again. Read the Sattipattana, Sayagi U Ba Khin Journal and an anthology of Buddha's words. Stayed at the center an extra couple of days.
Wrapped up BODS work, for now, and Co-op recruitment/onboarding admin.
Took the train to Mum's after handing over my flat to E&M. Spent the weekend resting, reading, eating, cooking, crocheting, moving blocks of wood. Did my tax return. Tried to catch up on photo uploads..
Finished Ender's Game (actually fab!). Started The Death of Grass (not enjoying this so much).
I haven't done a week in review since like May but REST ASSURED I'm keeping notes in a text file and I will flood you with all of them at some point. I'm behind on photo logging and like to link to stuff from the WiR, is why.
Lost quite a bit of basil and some of the parsley, and relocated bok choy isn't looking very happy. Rhubarb has come to life, and chard are growing fast. Moved my chillis to warmer climes (aka the polytunnel down the road) for a while.
Bought kale, leeks, lettuce and more cucumbers from Kirkcaldy Garden Center.
Found a big plastic crate on the beach. I'm sure this'll come in handy.
Dad came for one night to scope the bathrooms situation. And helped me to acquire a sink and cupboard unit from Freegle.
One bag of mushrooms yielded one clump. The other bag tried and failed :(
Too much bok choy sprouted, trying to spread it around. Repotted a ton of basil that grew from seeds. Salvaged the stray tomato that sprouted at the base of the avocado plant and potted it up.
Most of the replacement cucumbers I bought from B&Q look like they aren't going to survive, for unknown reasons.
Made many omelettes in the Lang Spoon kitchen. Been about 6 years since I cracked an egg..
Started making decisions about bathrooms, changing my mind, acquired some stuff.
TAG not-face-to-face from early mornings to late evenings, with Co-op in between. Somehow.
Recovered with a fantastic weekend of gallivanting. Went around the coast to Elie and Pittenweem, bought a wetsuit, swam in the sea pool, visited interesting little shops; rescued an excellent bath from the dump and rehomed it in K's garden; then 'helped' with clearing ivy of her shed roof.
Finally watched the 1984 Dune movie (over two nights). I quite enjoyed it, though I can see how to people who haven't read the books it is probably completely incoherent.
Sudden strong wind/rain/hail decimated my plants. We'll see who survives. Chard and bok choy sprouted though.
Bathroom renovation related panicking. Took a day off work to go tour Glenrothes on the bus to visit bathroom related hardware shops (and pick up some Freegle things). Did a bathroom 3D design at B&Q. Made a spreadsheet.
Finally rehomed my old sofas. Hopefully they are put to good use.
Helped to make raspberry plant supports from scavenged fence posts.
Tried a different sourdough recipe, to make a more sour one. It did not go well. It was too sticky to handle, I overcooked it slightly and had to spend half an hour getting it out of the trays. It tastes okay but is dense and chewy.
Moved my indoor salad planter to outside, and replanted the carrots in the big tire planter. Promptly lost all four remaining outdoor lettuces to wind and sunburn, alas. Planted bok choy seeds there instead. The radishes look battered, but are growing new leaves and might make it (apart from one). Also planted chard seeds in big pots.
Got a bunch more planters and pots from Freegle to expand the footpath-garden. Made my inside windowsill garden more civilised, and some chilli and basil have sprouted! Various plant photos.
Mostly amazing weather all week, so lots of beach walks.
Trekked around Kirkcaldy for various things.. coffee grinder, compost, jars. Also bought an espresso machine that doesn't work >:( (debugging in process) and a bed for Dave that... has a part missing so we can't put it together.
Extra TAG meetings, internal Co-op stuff, and where did the week go..?
Liberated some raspberry plants for the greater good. Replanted my radish and lettuce seedlings into the windowbox, but that's staying inside until it's less arctic out. Aphids immediately moved into the lettuces.
Later in the week, a lettuce disappeared completely, and the following night another one did. Set up a defensive perimeter with sand and rosemary, and conducted extensive searches, eventually gently rehoming a total of thirteen slugs. Garden related photos.
Also planted nasturtiums in the windowbox outside, hopefully they wait a couple of weeks to sprout until it's no longer intermittently freezing.
Helped to build some steps down to the beach, which is an improvement on the muddy steep slope I'd been using til now, and was immensely fun and satisfying.
