Seedlings sprouting! Tomatoes, squash, cucumber, gherkin, onions. It all begins again..
Made berry muffins for Greener Kirkcaldy Community Kitchen.
Reminded myself how the BODS translation workflow works.
Attended a meeting of the Vipassana Trust Accessibility Committee.
Found and fixed underfloor problems, and replaced some floorboards in my bedroom. Got the hammock up on the walls! Now I can see the sea from it, which means I never need to get up again. Laid new laminate in my bedroom.
Dismantled my espresso machine. Cleaned out limescale and gunk. Discovered it never has had a shower screen. Have not yet reassembled it.
Dave came back, brought Sri Lankan tea, made curry, left again.
The great thing about procrastibaking is that at the end of the day when you realise you haven't got any work done, you can console yourself with cake.
The chocolate cake is my interpretation of Sachertorte because I knew we had some apricot jam lying around in the community kitchen from last week.
And then I get to tell everyone about the time I single-handedly made sachertorte for about 170 people in the mountains outside Vienna a few years ago.
I accidentally made seitan the other day. I was trying to make a not-omelette (aka nomelette) and was mixing the equal parts flour and water with all the seasonings and stuff but it was going springy instead of batter-y?! I'd grabbed wheat gluten instead of gram flour. Fortunately it was a totally valid seitan mix so I stuck it in the fridge and started again. Now I'm frying it for a stirfry and it's super. Good job, past me.
Little caterpillars in my kale, your clever camouflage somewhat backfires when you're hiding from someone who only tries to find you in order to not eat you.
My latest mushroom pins have all aborted, my sourdough starter went mouldy in the fridge, and I rescued my inside tomato from a giant slug this morning.
Made a dish with multiple kinds of mushrooms in tonight, so if me and Dave get sick later we won't know if it's the ones I grew myself in my kitchen, or the ones I picked from the woods earlier. Exciting!
One bag of mushrooms yielded one clump. The other bag tried and failed :(
Too much bok choy sprouted, trying to spread it around. Repotted a ton of basil that grew from seeds. Salvaged the stray tomato that sprouted at the base of the avocado plant and potted it up.
Most of the replacement cucumbers I bought from B&Q look like they aren't going to survive, for unknown reasons.
Made many omelettes in the Lang Spoon kitchen. Been about 6 years since I cracked an egg..
Started making decisions about bathrooms, changing my mind, acquired some stuff.
TAG not-face-to-face from early mornings to late evenings, with Co-op in between. Somehow.
Recovered with a fantastic weekend of gallivanting. Went around the coast to Elie and Pittenweem, bought a wetsuit, swam in the sea pool, visited interesting little shops; rescued an excellent bath from the dump and rehomed it in K's garden; then 'helped' with clearing ivy of her shed roof.
Finally watched the 1984 Dune movie (over two nights). I quite enjoyed it, though I can see how to people who haven't read the books it is probably completely incoherent.
Sudden strong wind/rain/hail decimated my plants. We'll see who survives. Chard and bok choy sprouted though.
Bathroom renovation related panicking. Took a day off work to go tour Glenrothes on the bus to visit bathroom related hardware shops (and pick up some Freegle things). Did a bathroom 3D design at B&Q. Made a spreadsheet.
Finally rehomed my old sofas. Hopefully they are put to good use.
Helped to make raspberry plant supports from scavenged fence posts.
Tried a different sourdough recipe, to make a more sour one. It did not go well. It was too sticky to handle, I overcooked it slightly and had to spend half an hour getting it out of the trays. It tastes okay but is dense and chewy.
Moved my indoor salad planter to outside, and replanted the carrots in the big tire planter. Promptly lost all four remaining outdoor lettuces to wind and sunburn, alas. Planted bok choy seeds there instead. The radishes look battered, but are growing new leaves and might make it (apart from one). Also planted chard seeds in big pots.
Got a bunch more planters and pots from Freegle to expand the footpath-garden. Made my inside windowsill garden more civilised, and some chilli and basil have sprouted! Various plant photos.
