Why doesn't crocheting furiously while staring at my text editor cause code to be written???
mbaking (16 out of 25)
- Recovered after last week's adventure. Watched Stargate SG1 and Atlantis. Finally finished season 3 of the Durrells.
- Read at the beach in front of my buildling.
- Enjoyed some good sudden onset storms in Sarande.
- Tried and failed to make ongoing travel plans.
- Did a bunch of stuff for the DID Spec and Registries.
- Wrote some more Register of Interest scrapers.
- Baked some stuff..
- Finished a jumper, started and finished shorts with pineapple stitch, and started on some socks.
- Lockdown restrictions loosened up a bit in my area, but not in a way that impacted my life noticeably.
- I went out for a longer walk and got sunburned.
- Crocheted one sleeve of my sweater and one handle of my bag. Will I finish either? Anyone's guess.
- Watched a lot of Stargate. Finished season 2 of The Durrell's.
- Cooked a lot. This week's cake was flapjack. Utterly failed to make English-style pancakes. They need more work to veganise than American ones.
- ODSCo-op substituted our in-person meeting (which we call CoGM for co-working plus OGM) with an online one ('NoGM') and it was fun.
- Had lots of meetings and internal Co-op work, but did some OCDS stuff too.
- Really not been up for engaging my brain much. Everything is exhausting. Anything that isn't immediately achievable I lose focus on quickly. I haven't even been reading books. I'm so frustrated with myself that I've done no writing since lockdown started either.
- Successfully got SMS permission to go outside, and bought groceries (permission was unnecessary).
- Finished the body of my crochet jumper; just needs sleeves.
- Crocheted a useless facemask..
- Did some OCDS docs work.
- Watched more SG1, and Knives Out.
- Went for small forays to the beach in front of the building.
- Witnessed much drama from the balcony around someone locking the gate that joins my building's carpark with the building next door. It's a useful shortcut, I am annoyed along with the rest of the neighbourhood. I call it gategate.
- Got SSL working on my digital ocean droplet with the nginx reverse proxy docker setup. After putting it off for literally 3 years!
- Made lots of tasty food again.
- Some of the movement restrictions are being lifted next week. Certain regions without any infections are allowed movement within (but not between).
- Albanian government introduced a system of asking for a permit by SMS 24 hours in advance of going outside, only for important reasons. Curfew still 5am to 1pm. I didn't leave the flat at all.
- Worked on memorious crawlers for UK politician declarations of interest.
- And some DID spec stuff.
- And some of my own website stuff!
- Finished the poncho, so cosy.
- Cooked and baked loads of good stuff.
- Finished rewatching Avatar: the last airbender, and started Stargate SG1.
- Read on the balcony (True Names and Old Music & the Slave Woman).
- Data modelling.
- ActivityPub and WebSub went to REC.
- Learnt how to crocodile stitch.
- Went to Mostar for a weekend.
- 2 cups cashews
- 3/4 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed, 2.5 lemons)
- 1/4 cup coconut oil (melted, I've tried blending solid coconut oil before and it does not blend)
- drizzle maple syrup
- spash of almond milk
- 2 handfuls blueberries
- 2 tablespoons applesauce
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Either I've got a lot better at crochet since I last tried this, or a chainless foundation row is not as difficult as I remember it being..

Well it's not been a very productive day so far, so I'm taking a break to make bananabread. If all else fails, at least there's cake.

Today I made date syrup and almond milk. The ingredients were dates and water, and almonds and water, respectively.
In the first case, I soaked the dates in hot water for five minutes, then applied a blender; this took far longer than expected, but was well worth it. Actually I think the main ingredient is patience. Two parts dates, one part water.
In the second case, the almonds had already been soaked overnight and drained. I applied a juicer. Two parts almonds, two and a half parts water.
Both suuuuuper good. I might use date syrup for anything that requires any kind of sweetening in future.

I made bread today. As I munch through slice after slice I'm thinking.. it's so good.. is it cake? Did I make savoury cake? Store bread isn't this easy and pleasurable to eat. But actually my bread standards have probably just been drastically lowered since I left home and stopped eating my mum's homemade bread every day. Also my bread is pink.

Vegan cheesecake
This month is the month I really start to concentrate on my thesis, so today I made cheesecakes!
All quantities thoroughly approximate, and blended on high speed:
Augmented with a fruity layer:
In the freezer for a couple of hours, and they turned out pretty well. They are amazingly creamy and tangy. The real question is, why haven't I given up computers to make desserts full time?
Brownies: beetroot, coconut oil, cocoa, cashews, flour, coconut sugar, soy milk
After years of occasional trying and giving up, I finally figured out the foundation single crochet stitch. Now I'm bored of it.. Only 189 more to go for this round.
Vegan chocolate fudge pie
I adapted Chocolate Covered Katie's chocolate fudge pie recipe - not much, and only in the sense that I couldn't measure everything properly and she leaves several ingredients to the baker's discretion.
Crust: whole wheat flour, coconut sugar, vegetable oil.
Filling: tofu (less than the recipe), melted coconut oil + cocoa (melted chocolate substitute), more cocoa, coconut sugar, coconut milk, drizzle of maple syrup. (Omitted salt and vanilla).
As promised on Katie's blog... really good. It set perfectly after about half an hour in the fridge. And before it set, it worked great as mousse.
Thanks to Liz for the decorative sprinkling of coconut creamer.
